Christine McDonald
Mothers know how to take care of people.
When Christine found out her 5-year old daughter’s best friend’s mother needed a kidney transplant, she put herself in that woman’s shoes. She imagined what it would be like to be the mother of young children, to miss out on so many of their lives’ important moments, and to live without hope. That’s when she decided to see if she was a match.
It turns out she was not a match for Colleen. But thanks to the Kidney Paired Exchange Program, she was able to give one of her kidneys to a pool and her friend received the kidney she needed.
Real life heroes like Christine live amongst us. They’re hardly recognizable as they don’t wear capes or medals - they just go about their lives like nothing ever happened. Here’s to them.
