Geoff Dunsire and Debi Pearce

At the age of 31, Geoff has spent more than half his life dealing with health obstacles most people will never know.

At 13 he developed a fatal liver disease and at 25, his life was saved by a full liver transplant. His kidneys then failed, requiring dialysis 3-4 times a week, and an infection caused a brain injury with memory loss and complete paralysis (six years later he is now walking). Because of his complicated medical condition, he needed a kidney from a living donor and none of his family was a match.

Debi Pearce, his family’s realtor, was aware of Geoff’s need. She wondered what it would be like if she was in the same position and nobody stepped up. Without telling Geoff, she got tested.

Despite being healthy in every other way, she discovered she was pre-diabetic. She made a plan to walk, lose weight, lower her blood pressure and normalize her blood sugars. On June 19, 2019, Debi donated a kidney to Geoff. He now calls her his Kidney Mom, or his Angel on Earth.
