Jalisa Chandani
A kidney donation gave Jalisa back the life she missed.
Since her Lupus diagnosis at the age of seven, Jalisa has missed many important life events and milestones. Her frequent trips to the hospital for treatments were the central theme during her childhood and teens. Her Lupus treatments have been aggressive, and she has suffered many years of drug treatments and adaptation, finally resulting in kidney failure. Her dialysis treatment was supposed to start on December 24, but her compassionate doctors at BC Children’s Hospital agreed to delay it so that she could go watch a Seattle Seahawks game on Christmas Eve.
Since the successful kidney transplant on March 22, 2018, the disease seems to have calmed down. She now lives a normal life, with hope for her future. She is finally enjoying some of the simple things she missed out on, like hanging out with friends, eating her favourite foods, and making plans to get a degree. Thanks to one young man who signed an organ donor card, kidney disease is not the end of the story for Jalisa.
