Rob Hammerschmidt
“I’m looking forward to the future.”
Rob was born with kidney issues and received his first transplant, from his Dad, in 2009 at the age of 23.
Life was great. He travelled the world, got married and lived life to the fullest. About 5 years ago, he started to experience rejection. He stopped working in November of 2019, when it became too difficult. Complications arose around dialysis, and when he finally began Hemodialysis at VGH, he became extremely sick every single treatment.
On January 3, 2021, he received a call that they had found a match from a deceased donor. He got his second transplant on January 5, one day before his original “transplantversary”. He’s doing great and for the first time in over a year he is able to go for walks with his wife and dog.
